Before taking up law Peter Gowing studied agriculture at Lincoln, which has given him an edge with many of the farming clients he has dealt with in three decades of legal practice.
Twenty-five of those years were in Dunedin before he moved to Wanaka for a lifestyle change.
“I love the outdoors and all the wonderful activities Wanaka provides,” he says, but adds “in such a growing town the work has kept me busier than I expected.”
Peter now specialises in sub-divisions, property and trust work, while still retaining many commercial and farming clients.
“I enjoy people, and helping them realise their ambitions and their commercial aspirations. I like to add value to people's affairs, and to do an efficient job that involves the least possible concern for my clients.”
Peter believes lawyers should be champions for their clients. “People come to me because they want problems solved. I believe in taking up their causes and moving as effectively as possible to have those problems remedied.”
Away from the office Peter puts time into his sporting interests, especially golf, skiing, and tennis, “but not as often as I would like.”
He also supports Wanaka's cultural activities. “We take a keen interest in the enhancement of Wanaka's embryonic cultural environment. We want to see the area thrive and prosper in a carefully planned way that caters for the interests of the community.”
