Diccon has been with the litigation team since 1984, and a partner since 1992.
He works principally with corporate and institutional clients, with extensive experience in public and judicial reviews, employment law, arbitration, and opinion work.
He's also involved in major commercial matters — particularly employment and resource management issues involving transfers of businesses, and in the structuring of joint ventures.
Diccon likes solving problems simply and efficiently. "I enjoy challenging legal issues, the research and strategising, and working out what steps are best and most practical for our clients," he says.
"I get frustrated dealing with people who make unnecessary work and avoid dealing with issues. While I'll certainly maintain a strong line for a client when it's called for, I aim for sensible, prompt resolutions. And although it's sometimes hard for clients under stress, I believe in giving them realistic expectations as to what we can do for them.
"I relish time on my feet in court, but the reality is that it is very often better to find solutions that avoid the costs and uncertainties of court practice. I try to maintain an intelligent approach to getting a practical result without going off on any flights of fancy."
Diccon believes that Gallaway Cook Allan combines traditional professional values with a relaxed and non-pretentious attitude.
Outside of work he's very active in the Dunedin choral music scene, is renovating an older house, and indulges in a passion for performance cars and motorcycles.
